Hostel in Palomino · La Guajira, Colombia

Corazón de Tagua

Where stories blossom.

A timber-and-palm house tucked into a garden, 1.1 km from the Caribbean, between the forest, the river and the Sierra Nevada.

The hostel’s wooden gate open onto the garden: a dirt path between potted plants, red ixora flowers and a palm-thatched hut at the back.

Field notes

The garden in five details

Nothing needs inventing here: you just have to look slowly.

A guest lying on the garden floor covered in fuchsia pomarroso blossoms, among large-leaved plants and a decorative heron.
01

The fuchsia floor

When the pomarroso tree blooms, it drops its flowers and the garden wakes up carpeted in fuchsia.

Aerial view of the hostel’s palm-thatch roof, with a solar panel, surrounded by fuchsia bougainvillea and tall trees.
02

Palm and bougainvillea

From the air it all makes sense: a palm-thatch roof surrounded by bougainvillea and tall trees, right in the village.

A green parakeet perched on a branch of the garden’s starfruit tree, among yellow starfruit.
04

Parakeets in the starfruit tree

A starfruit tree in the garden draws green visitors. Keep your camera handy in the mornings.

The house at night

As evening falls the lights come on and the timber house glows between the trees.

A day at Tagua

One day, a thousand ways to feel Palomino

This is what a day can feel like here: not an itinerary or a list of included services. Everyone makes their own.

A woman holds a yoga pose on the hostel’s wooden deck, surrounded by greenery, under a timber roof with a hammock.

6:00 Morning

The birds get up before you do.

Light through the trees, unhurried coffee in the shared kitchen, a stretch on the wooden deck and parakeets chattering in the starfruit tree.

A wide river through the forest, with the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada in the distance.
A man sitting on a moss-covered tree stump on the shore at sunset.

14:00 Afternoon

Out there, the river carries you to the sea.

Float down the Palomino River on an inner tube, walk to the beach, look up at the snow-capped Sierra Nevada on a clear day. We will tell you how to arrange it.

19:00 Night

And the house lights up.

Warm lights on the timber, conversations at the garden tables, the hammock on the upper floor and the sound of a Guajira night.
